The Natural History Museum is one of the world’s leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web.

Sitting within the Science Directorate which is responsible for the policy, planning and management of Museum science, our Registry ensures that our collections are made and used appropriately. Working with colleagues across the Museum, Registry plays an important role within the organisation underpinning several major income streams including research grants, temporary exhibitions and touring exhibitions. With a collection of over 80 million items covering books, art works, botany, entomology, zoology, mineralogy and palaeontology and an ambitious exhibition programme both at the NHM and internationally, there are always new challenges and new things to learn.

As our Assistant Registrar (Exhibitions), you will be primarily responsible for the management of loans in to the Museum's temporary exhibitions, acquisitions for display and the documentation of items from the Museum's collections being used in the same exhibitions. Working with the Registrar team, Conservation, Security, Exhibition Science Lead as well as the Museum's Engagement Group and Project Office, you will be responsible for all aspects of exhibition loan management including contract negotiation, facility reports, due diligence checks and reporting, Government Indemnity applications, transport, organisation of installation and deinstallation. There will also be a large element of cross team working to create documentation regarding the use of items from the Museum's collections.

The successful applicant will be joining a small team of Registrars so there will also be opportunities to undertake a variety of tasks associated with the Museum's Registry including couriering and installing loans internationally, advising on transport, packing, import and export for reactive loans and research loans and contributing to process development. You will be able to demonstrable experience of organising the entry and exit of exhibition loans from in a museum or gallery and possess strong communication skills with the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.
