Job Description:
The Bodleian Libraries are looking for an experienced Web and Digital Developer to join our Communications team at an exciting and busy time. You will be responsible for working across a wide portfolio of projects, including the move to a new CMS and the redevelopment of the Bodleian’s websites for both academic and public audiences.

You will help the Libraries deliver attractive, usable and engaging interfaces for websites and other digital projects across the Libraries, ranging from research-driven improvements to the websites to interactive experiences for on-site visitors to our galleries and exhibitions. You will champion best practice in front- and back-end development and user experience and be passionate about creating great digital experiences for our users.

Experience of front- and back-end development work using modern technologies and knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript and web standards is essential, along with relevant experience in user research and design.

This is a full-time, fixed-term post for 2 years.
Required Skills:
Essential selection criteria
- Solid portfolio of front and back-end development work using modern technologies
- In-depth knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript and associated best practices
- Relevant experience in user research, user experience design, interactive design, or similar areas
- A demonstrable passion for creating interfaces, whether online or in situ, that provide excellent user experiences
- In-depth knowledge of accessibility, web standards and browser/device capabilities
- Experience in running user and stakeholder research to identify performance improvements and usability issues
- Experience in migrating users, including Content Editors as well as Developers, across to a new CMS
- Excellent communication skills. The postholder must be able to express their ideas clearly and work in a team environment both internally and with stakeholders.
- Familiarity with online accessibility standards, e.g. W3Cs Web Accessibility Initiative
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary development team
- A positive approach to acquiring new skills
- An eye for good design

Desirable selection criteria
- Experience in manipulating and improving a Drupal-based platform
- In-depth knowledge of technology and hardware – particularly for public-facing use
- Experience working at the intersection between front-end and back-end development
- Experience with front-end libraries and frameworks such as Angular, React, jQuery, Twitter Bootstrap, Foundation, etc.
- Some experience with server-side languages, e.g. Python, PHP, Node.js
- Experience using front-end automated build systems (Grunt, Gulp)
- Experience using a modern source control system, e.g. Git
