The Participation Team works to open up Parliament, to give the public a voice and to shape Parliament in the interests of the public. We reach out to communities and audiences across the UK, promoting an understanding of the role and relevance of both Houses, inspiring people to get involved and empowering people to have a voice.

We are looking for an Assistant Collections Manager to join UK Parliament’s Historic Furniture and Decorative Arts team. This is an exciting new role in a small team which has been created to support the wider Heritage Collections team through a period of change and development. The Assistant Collections Manager will undertake research on the collection to fill gaps in knowledge and advise on how and where the collection was used in the past.

The post-holder will also track the movement of historic collection items and manage the return of loans prior to the commencement of the Northern Estates and Restoration and Renewal projects. You will also have a great opportunity to work across the estate with different teams such Accommodation Managers for both Houses and Strategic Estates, working towards providing historic furniture for work areas.
Required Skills:
Significant relevant experience within a collections care department of a public art gallery, museum or historic house context.

Good working professional knowledge and understanding of collections management, especially museum/gallery documentation policies and standards (Spectrum) and experience in using a collections management database.

Proven experience of research on historic/museum collections and making this accessible to a wide range of audiences. Excellent communication skills both written and oral with the ability to convey complex messages clearly, concisely and effectively.
