Job Title: Security Officer

Department: Airfield & Estates, Duxford

Responsible to: Supervising Security Officer

Responsible for: None

Overall Purpose of the Job

To assist in the security and safety of the museum site, exhibits, buildings, staff, visitors and other site users.


Principle accountabilities
· admissions and exits at the gate of staff, visitors and other site users

· issuing and receipt of keys

· dealing with incoming telephone calls when necessary, PA system, pocket phone equipment

· monitoring and operating fire and intruder detection equipment and carrying out emergency procedures in the event of activation

· carrying out regular clocking patrols and related duties as instructed

· issue of passes / badges to site visitors

· driving duties on and off site

· domestic and administrative duties related to security

· carrying out domestic and CAA fire duties in accordance with procedures

· qualify and serve as a First Aider

Ability to drive and hold a valid driving licence
Computer literate

Previously security experience
Experience of fire fighting
Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Access.

· Contract type: Established

§ Hours: You will work a 12 hour shift pattern as a member of one of the four teams of staff, reporting to a Supervising Security Officer. Your shift pattern will change every five days and rotate on a 20 day pattern. Your hours will normally be:

Days 1-5 Days 6-10 Days 11-15 Days 16-20
0700 - 1900 Rest Days 1900-0700 Rest Days

You will also be required to work airshow weekends on a compulsory overtime basis, depending on shift pattern.

· Annual Leave: The annual leave allowance is 22½ days per annum, rising to 24½ days after one years service. This includes your public and privilege day entitlement.

· Probation: The successful candidate will be on probation for 6 months.

· Salary: The salary range is £12,897 - £14,594. Salary is paid monthly in arrears. Starting salary is normally at the minimum of the range, but may be higher depending on skills and experience.

· Performance Pay: Movement on the salary scale will be performance related with increases in line with the Museum’s pay scheme. Pay awards are based on performance for the previous period 1 April to 31 March and are effective from the following 1 August. Thus staff joining the Museum in the period 1 April to 31 July inclusive should be aware that their first pay increase under the scheme rules will not take effect until 1 August the following year.

· Band: All posts in the Museum, are allocated to a band to indicate approximately the level of responsibility of the post and position in the Museum’s structure (A - E). This post is band E. Please note that this band allocation is subject to review.
