Job Description
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is the largest international wetland conservation charity in the UK. WWTs mission is to conserve wetlands and their biodiversity. WWT operates nine visitor centres in the UK, bringing people closer to wetland wildlife.
The Wetlands Advisory Service, the consultancy arm of the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), is the leading specialist wetland related environmental consultancy in the UK. Established in 1989, the Wetlands Advisory Service provides well informed, impartial and professional advice on how to conserve, improve and manage wetlands throughout the UK and overseas. Currently we are looking to expand the consultancy and are seeking consultants with a range of skills and experience.
A competent and experienced content developer is sought to work within the consultancy on interpretation planning and content development, for a range of wetland habitat and visitor centre projects. The role would include project management, advising on exhibition/ interpretation planning, storyline development, content researching, sourcing materials (facts, artefacts and images) for exhibitions, informal and formal education.
Responsibility of role
1. To be responsible for the management of projects and to ensure that they are project managed to the highest standard and delivered on schedule and in budget.
2. To ensure that all departmental management and operating procedures are adhered to.
3. To be responsible for ensuring that all WWT Health & Safety procedures and protocols are applied to projects under your management responsibility.
4. To assist in the smooth running and further development of the Department.
5. To regularly assist and occasionally take responsibility for the preparation of costings for potential projects for submission to consultancy clients or funding bodies.
Specialist Expertise
1. To provide WAS, and the wider department, with specialist skills in content development, across a range of projects.
2. To undertake a range of integrated interpretation planning related tasks which may include inter alia the following: storyline development, exhibit template writing (messages, aims, descriptions, references and national curriculum links), access and audience development, data entry and analysis, data/ image and artefact sourcing/ referencing, and liaison with external specialists and other WWT staff members to resolve multi-disciplinary wetland related issues.
3. To ensure that specialist skills are updated and utilised for the benefit of WWT.
4. In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the post holder is required to perform any other reasonable duties that may be assigned by the supervisor shown above, from time to time.
Management Tasks
1. To be responsible for the allocation of project tasks to staff and volunteers. To take an active role in staff motivation and training, thereby maximising team expertise and morale.
2. To develop, manage and deliver all aspects of a range of consultancy and strategic conservation projects to the agreed standards.
Communications
1. To promote the work of WWT, its consultancy and other WWT operations amongst potential and actual sponsors, clients and collaborators at regional, national and international levels.
2. Where appropriate, to ensure the provision of conservation and scientific information to WWT centres and departments, both in terms of advice and on a regular basis for use in centre-based initiatives of WWT activities.
3. To contribute to WWTs press and media work, and to answering enquiries from students and members of the general public.

Qualifications/Training
Essential
Educated to graduate level.
Understanding of, and passion for, natural history.
Desirable
Relevant post-graduate qualification.
Knowledge/Experience
Essential
Two years experience in exhibition development/ interpretation planning.
Experience of project management.
Knowledge of researching and sourcing materials for exhibitions, informal (e.g. community arts projects) and formal (e.g. school curriculum) education.
Knowledge of natural history.
Computer skills including MS Word and Excel.
Clean current driving licence.
Desirable
Knowledge of market/communications research techniques, such as developing access and audience plans.
Experience in using software such as Desktop Publishing, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or In Design, data processing software such as MS Access or Filemaker Pro.
Knowledge of wetlands.
Personal Profile

General Notes
The post will be based at Slimbridge and may require work during evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the post. |
