Job Description:
The National Museum of Science and Industry operates the Science Museum in London and Swindon, the National Media Museum in Bradford and the National Railway Museum in York. The museums oversee 5.5 million artefacts and images, welcome over 3.5 million visitors annually and reach a further 6 million online.
The 3 temporary posts are based at the Science Museum working in conjunction with the Conservation, Collections Logistics, Collections Documentation and Workshops teams. They will be responsible for the removal, packing and relocation of 1150 objects in galleries scheduled to be cleared (Weather, Surveying etc) to make way for new displays.


Full-time 35 hours per week
Required Skills:
Supervised by the Collections Move Project Co-ordinator you will assist in successful completion of the removal of 1150 objects from the Science Museum galleries and their transfer to store by the project deadline. You will be able to demonstrate good manual dexterity and have a careful, systematic approach to working with Museum Objects. You will ensure that you document the move to an excellent standard of accuracy, complying with the Science Museum’s location and movement control procedures. You will update database records, object condition grading and record photography.
Up-to-date knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety requirements is essential.
A high level of inter-personal and communication skills is essential.
You must have experience of using a collections management object database, (eg MIMSY XG). Some experience of using a digital camera would be an advantage. It is desirable for you to have experience of packing a wide range of materials and objects to a conservation standard including manual handling and palletising objects.
