Job Title:     House & Collections Manager

Salary:     £28,923 p.a.
Type:     Full-Time Position
 Contract: Fixed Term - 12 months
Location:     Norwich, England
Closing Date:     Friday, January 20th, 2017
Job Ref No:     IRC44473
Job Description:
House & Collections Manager
Contract: Fixed Term full time (37.5 hours per week for 12 months)
Location: Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate. Felbrigg, Norwich, Norfolk, NR11 8PR

Are you excited by the challenge of balancing excellent conservation and presentation standards with a busy programme of events and year-round opening? Are you passionate about surprising and delighting our visitors and reaching out to new audiences. We’re looking for a House and Collections Manager to deliver all of this, and much more.

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.

Popular Felbrigg Hall is one of the most elegant country houses in East Anglia. The rolling landscaped park with its lake, woods and waymarked trails is great for family days out and even boasts ‘buggy-friendly’ walking routes. The fine walled garden grows flowers for the house, as well as vegetables for the local community. Roles within Felbrigg Hall’s team are highly sought after, and the team pride themselves on their commitment to the estate.

Accommodation is provided to the post holder for the proper or better performance of his or her duties in accordance with Trust criteria and HMRC rules.

About the role
Special places have a magical power. They inspire people with their extraordinary stories, and Felbrigg Hall is no exception.

Sharing our love of places and people, you’ll manage the care of the historic interiors and collections. You’ll strive to improve the visitor experience through offering a glimpse into the stories of this fascinating place. You’ll bring Felbrigg Hall to life for all our visitors, and you’ll use your creativity and enthusiasm to ensure they keep coming back. There’ll be challenges, but you’ll be ready for them. In fact, you’ll face them head on. With a great team around you, you’ll be instrumental in developing increased access to the Felbrigg Hall's interiors and contents through innovative interpretation as well as managing collections conservation and documentation. You'll also be involved with leading both projects, and teams of volunteers.

About you
In order to find the balance between conservation care and engagement you’ll need to demonstrate;

• Inspirational leadership and people management experience
• The ability to be a team player and work collaboratively with other teams across the property/region; this will require initiative and the ability to lead by example
• Experience of conservation techniques
• A creative approach to engagement and access for our visitors
• Collections management experience in a museum or historic property environment including inventory database and cataloguing
• Excellent communication skills including influencing and negotiation

And it will be helpful if you can demonstrate the following experience on your application;

• A formal qualification in Museum Studies, Art History, object conservation or similar relevant subject
• Evidence of building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• A proven track record of delivering small projects including managing budgets and operational risk.
