Job Description:
We are seeking an Assistant Visitor Services Manager to supervise a team of staff and volunteers at the Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury. The Museum is undergoing a £2.4 million re-development which is due to be completed by spring 2017. The project will create new learning and visitor facilities and refurbish the gallery displays throughout the site.

Working with the Visitor Services Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the daily supervision of the Visitor Services Team and volunteers at the museum. As the first point of contact with our visitors, we expect the highest standards of customer care from you and your team to ensure that a professional and welcoming service is provided to all visitors at all times.

You will also act as Premises Supervisor for the site, when necessary, liaising with contractors to ensure the security, maintenance and cleanliness of the buildings, grounds and collections, and the safety of staff and visitors.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Somerset Rural Life Museum team as it gears up for opening in spring 2017.

The South West Heritage Trust is a new charity which delivers a broad range of heritage services across Somerset and Devon. We are a growing organisation, founded on services that were previously delivered by Somerset and Devon County Councils. With a turnover exceeding £3 million, we manage and run three museums (including the Museum of Somerset), two Archives and Local Studies services and look after the historic environment in Somerset.

The job will be based at the Somerset Rural Life Museum, Abbey Farm, Chilkwell Street, Glastonbury.
Required Skills:
You will need excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and have a practical knowledge of health and safety and premises issues, together with a good level of ICT competency. You should also have a genuine enthusiasm for Somerset’s history and heritage, and be keen to share this to inform and inspire our visitors.

Maximum flexibility, and the ability to work additional hours/overtime, sometimes at short notice, is essential.
