Type:     Full-Time Position
Location:     London, England
Closing Date:     Monday, March 13th, 2017
Job Ref No:
Job Description:
Salary: Competitive
Location: Dulwich, London

Dulwich Picture Gallery is seeking to appoint a Curator. A key member of the Management Committee, the Curator will report to the new Sackler Director, Jennifer Scott, who takes up her post in April.

Dulwich Picture Gallery, England's first purpose-built picture gallery, houses a world-class Collection of Old Master paintings in Sir John Soane's unique building which opened in 1817. With one of the finest collections, for its size, of Old Master paintings in the world, it is especially rich in Italian, French and Spanish Baroque paintings, in Dutch and Flemish art and British portraits from Tudor times to the 19th century. It is also renowned for hosting some of the UK's most intriguing and revelatory exhibitions alongside its permanent collections of Baroque Masterpieces.

The Curator is responsible for the care, research and interpretation of the Gallery's historic Collection and, with the Head of Exhibitions, ensures the delivery of its exhibition and display programme. Working with the Sackler Director, and the Heads of Learning and Exhibitions, they will bring innovation and new interpretation to the Collection, also drawing on contemporary interventions to inspire diverse audiences. They will, in addition, continue to develop the Gallery's reputation as a centre of curatorial and art historical excellence with national and international standing.
Required Skills:
The Curator will bring sound research, art history credentials and creativity to this role. Educated to at least degree level in art history, preferably with a post-graduate specialism in baroque or 18th century art and with an understanding of the importance of contemporary art, they will be able to initiate and develop exhibitions and displays which bring new insights into the history and rich Collection of Dulwich Picture Gallery. Recognised for their expertise, able to develop networks of interest around the gallery, they will also be engaged with developing the distinctive offer of the Gallery to audiences at home and abroad while contributing to the success and financial performance of the organisation overall.
