Job Description:
The University Museum of Bergen is currently seeking two conservators for two project positions (2 years).

Duties and Responsibilities:

The work will include the conservation / restoration of older natural history objects from the Museum's exhibition collection. Work will mainly concentrate on zoological objects but there will also be work related to the conservation of objects from the geological and the botanical collections. The main part of the work will include cleaning, retouching, and complementation of the objects. The work will also include packing and transport of objects to/from the museum’s storage facilities, as well as documentation and mounting of objects in the exhibition. The successful candidates will be part of a group of conservators who also collaborate with the exhibition project’s taxidermist
Required Skills:
Qualifications and personal skills:

We are looking for someone who
•Holds an approved conservation degree at BSc level or equivalent in conservation, preferably with an emphasis on natural history material. Relevant experience may substitute education requirements
•Can work efficiently, accurately, and is well-structured
•Has good perception of shape and colour
•Is able to work independently as well as having excellent teamwork capabilities
•Is flexible and creative
•Thrives in a sometimes hectic working environment
•Has good oral and written communication skills in one of the Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish) or English
•Is familiar with academic conservation and restoration standards

The successful candidates must not be allergic to animals or chemicals to such an extent that it would influence their work.


A valid driver’s licence is an advantage.
