Museum, Heritage and Culture Assistant Manager (Resources and Development)
Full-time Maternity Cover (Fixed term: September 2017 - August 2018)
Salary: £31,601 - £34,538 per annum plus Inner London Fringe Allowance £840 per annum (Currently subject to Job Evaluation).

The role
Epping Forest District Council’s Museum, Heritage and Culture Service have an opportunity for an experienced Manager to join its dynamic and successful team, in a maternity cover role.

The Assistant Museum, Heritage and Culture Manager is part of the management team responsible for overseeing both Epping Forest District Museum in Waltham Abbey and Broxbourne Borough’s Lowewood Museum in Hoddesdon, which is operated under a successful Service Level Agreement. This post has a specific focus managing the Museums, Heritage & Culture teams Resources and Development section, managing staff responsible for commercial activity, communications and marketing, exhibitions and collections development and programmes for the service.

The person
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and effective manager, with a proven track record of managing successful teams and events / exhibition programmes, and will have good business acumen to enable them to contribute to our current Resilience project which is funded through Arts Council England and also includes Chelmsford City Council. They will also have well-established leadership skills and be highly motivated with the ability to work independently.

As this role plays a key part in a very successful partnership between three local authorities, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to maintain excellent working relationships at all levels and be able to contribute to development plans and business planning across the partnership.

The scope of the service
This is a particularly interesting and exciting time to join the Council, as we have a well- established tripartite partnership with Broxbourne Borough and Chelmsford Council, which currently has funding from Arts Council England for resilience work to support the long term sustainability of the museums. This has enabled the appointment of three additional staff who are working on commercial development; fundraising and public engagement through to end of March 2018. As part of this work, we are embarking on the establishment of a Charitable Development Trust for Epping Forest and Broxbourne and the successful candidate will be able to contribute to this development.

The Epping Forest District Museum has also been recently extended and fully refurbished, via a HLF funded project, providing a contemporary base for an integrated team of museum and arts specialists providing an excellent small museum experience, which is aspirational and punching significantly above its weight.

The postholder is required to have a clean driving license and use of a car.
