The Kennet & Avon Canal Trust owns and operates Crofton Beam Engines, a grade one listed industrial site that features working beam engines including the oldest beam engine in the world still carrying out its original function.

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) is currently processing a second-round application for funding to support ‘Our Crofton Story’, a 2 year-project overall that will see important heritage repairs, improvements in visitor facilities and implementation of an exciting interpretation and activity plan.

The Kennet & Avon Canal Trust is seeking a part-time Works Manager, experienced and skilled at managing capital works projects within a heritage environment. The capital works section of the project will run from the start of the delivery phase (November 2017) until April 2018.

The Trust intends to offer the successful candidate a daily fee between £250-£300 (ex VAT) depending on the candidate’s experience and skills. The project is assuming a workload equating to a 3-day week.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview during the period 26-27th October with a decision to appoint being made shortly afterwards. The successful candidate will be expected to start work shortly after appointment. Please note – this role is dependent on the Trust’s funding application being successful and HLF ‘Permission to Start’ being received.
