Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:

a. To generate appropriate volunteering opportunities and role descriptions based on the needs of the Trust
b. To recruit, place and retain volunteers by:
i. Co-ordinating and managing recruitment drives and other profile-raising events
ii. Reviewing applications, interviewing volunteers and ensuring they are appropriately matched for a position
iii. Managing the induction and training of volunteers
iv. Monitoring, supporting and motivating volunteers
v. Issuing, updating and filing the appropriate paperwork
vi. Developing accreditation for volunteers and their work
c. To support our volunteer managers by:
i. Offering advice and guidance on new or existing roles
ii. Researching and the development of volunteer policies and procedures in line with good practice
iii. Issuing and updating relevant documents on a regular basis
iv. Enabling appropriate training for both volunteers and their managers
d. To keep up-to-date with legislation and policy relating to volunteering and making any necessary modifications to accommodate changes
e. To attend monthly volunteer meetings and other committees as requested
f. To regularly engage with volunteers to provide support and build rapport
g. To raise staff awareness of the role and function of volunteers and to liaise with other departments within the Trust to understand how they work and assess their volunteering needs.
h. To maintain and develop the volunteer database, as required
i. To nurture volunteer wellbeing through good communications, social activities and celebrations
j. To undertake any other duties as reasonably requested.
Required Skills:
The position requires the following core skills:
1. Previous experience working with volunteers and managing/developing people
2. Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of people
3. A confident communicator (both written and spoken)
4. Experience in processing, distributing and filing large volumes of paperwork, demonstrating a competent and methodical approach, with good attention to detail
5. An ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond sensitively to the opinion of others
6. Organised with an ability to develop structure and process
7. Passionate about recognising the potential in all volunteers and an ability to motivate others
8. An ability to remain impartial, show resilience and at times to be assertive
9. A flexible and non-judgemental approach to people and work
10. Enthusiastic with a positive can-do attitude and able to manage own workload
11. A knowledge of and interest in the Bletchley Park story and a willingness to promote the Trust’s mission

The following skills are desirable, but not essential as full training will be given:
1. Experience in directly managing volunteers
2. Previous experience with volunteers in a museum or heritage attraction
3. Experience of writing and developing management resources, policies and procedures

This role will require flexible working (frequent evenings and weekends) to facilitate engagement with volunteers.
