Job Description:
We are looking for a Digitisation Team Leader to contribute to the Wellcome Collection’s ambitious digitisation programme. We are developing a world-class online resource for the history of medicine by digitising our historic library holdings and making them freely available online. To date we have added 30 million images into our digital library, and we aim to grow by around 5 million more images per year for the next few years. This includes printed materials, audio-visual formats, archives, manuscripts, artworks and ephemera.

About the Role
In this role, you will help coordinate scheduling and planning of our large-scale digitisation initiative, lead the Digitisation Support Team, and facilitate cross-team communication and collaboration.

You will:
• lead and develop 3 highly-skilled Digitisation Support Officers and oversee the team’s performance on key areas of activity incl uding retrieving, tracking, and preparing items for digitisation
• oversee scoping framework for collections being considered for digitisation
• coordinate scheduling and priority-setting with peers and staff in the Collections Information team, Photography teams and the Conservation team
• facilitate communication with peers and staff across Wellcome Collection to ensure the smooth running of the large-scale digitisation workflows
• work closely with the Conservation team to ensure correct conservation practices are carried out during preparation, retrievals and storage of items

About you
To succeed in this role, you will need:
• experience working in a library, archive or museum
• experience leading and developing staff
• experience with strategic planning and communication

You will also need to have:
• a keen interest in digital cultural heritage
• ability to develop and critically evaluate workflows and processes, with a focus on continuous improvement
• excellent communication skills – you will need to be a proactive communicator within a busy team environment, able to negotiate effectively
• highly organised and able to work to targets and meet deadlines
• skilled with handling and caring for historic materials
