Job Ref No:     L&CI-11110

Job Description:
Director of the Manchester Museum
Manchester
Competitive salary plus benefits

Develop the future of a world renowned university museum
The Manchester Museum is one of the nation’s leading museums. It is also among the largest university museums, being part of the University of Manchester. Much like the University, where research has led to numerous ‘firsts’ such as splitting the atom and isolating graphene, the Museum’s programmes of exhibitions and public engagement are internationally acclaimed. Its entire 4.5 million-strong collection of natural history and human cultures is designated as being of global importance. As work gathers pace on a £12.7m capital project to build new galleries and facilities, there has never been a more exciting moment to be the Museum’s Director.

Lead the delivery of a contemporary agenda
As Director, you will be accountable for realising the Museum’s vision to use its collection to promote understanding between cultures and work towards a sustainable world. As a very visible champion of the Museum, you will contribute to the agenda of its various funders and partners. Crucially, you will ensure that the Museum enriches the University’s research, teaching and social responsibility agendas, while developing its collections and making them accessible for more diverse communities than ever before.

Inspire a globally significant vision with your knowledge and experience
A well-regarded leader, you will bring the combination of creative flair, people management skills and fundraising expertise necessary to keep the Museum at the forefront of innovations in heritage, conservation and engagement practice. Ambitious, confident and adaptable, you understand the opportunities and challenges ahead, and you know how to sustain an environment in which the Museum and its people can flourish. Your substantial body of senior leadership experience within a similarly complex, multi-stakeholder organisation equips you to forge strong relationships across sectors, and to represent the Museum at the very highest level.
