Job Description:
Arundells
Front of House Supervisor Vacancy

Background
Arundells is the former home of Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath and is situated in Cathedral Close in Salisbury. Left much as it was when he lived here, the house contains Sir Edward’s extensive collections of artworks, musical and sailing memorabilia, Oriental and European ceramics, political cartoons, glassware, sculptures and photographs. The house is surrounded by a beautiful two-acre walled garden that stretches down to the Rivers Avon and Nadder and has perfect views of Salisbury Cathedral.

Sir Edward Heath came to Arundells in 1985 and lived here until his death in 2005. His wish was that the house be opened to the public so that they could “share the beauty of Arundells.” Governed by the Sir Edward Heath Charitable Foundation, the house first opened as a visitor attraction in 2008.

Entrance to Arundells was initially by guided tour only. This changed in 2016 with the introduction of ‘general entry’ days. To support this change, a team of volunteers were recruited to steward the house on these days. The enthusiasm, dedication and support of the volunteer steward team continues to be central to the growth of Arundells as a key heritage attraction in Salisbury.

A small number of public and private events are hosted at the property throughout the year and the former stable-block is used for temporary exhibitions.

Overview of Responsibilities
The Front of House Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day to day operations on open days, ensuring that our visitors receive the best possible welcome and that our fantastic room steward team are fully supported.
