£27,860 - £31,063 per annum
37 hours per week, permanent

As a member of the Heritage Team, you will be responsible for both remedial and preventative conservation of the Comhairle’s museum and archive collections held in store and displayed to the public at Museum nan Eilean and Tasglann nan Eilean at Lews Castle on the Isle of Lewis and Museum nan Eilean Uist & Barra on the Isle of Benbecula. You will work closely with the Collections Officer, Archivist, Museum Development Officer and the Heritage Manager to maintain and develop the collections as a resource for learning, inspiration and enjoyment. You will also work with other members of the Heritage Team in providing advice and guidance to community organisations working in the heritage sector across the Outer Hebrides.

You must have a relevant object conservation qualification at degree level OR a first degree in a related subject and a recognised qualification in conservation. In addition, you must have: proven experience of working in a conservation environment of both practical and preventative conservation treatments; experience in the preparation of comprehensive conservation treatment records (manual and computerised) including photography; knowledge of modern conservation techniques with special reference to social history; knowledge and understanding of the implications of the HASAW Act and COSSH regulations when undertaking conservation treatments; ability to programme own workload and achieve strict deadlines; ability to accurately appraise museum collections to produce conservation conditions reports and surveys; good communication skills. A current, clean driving licence is essential.

Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of grade with annual incremental progression.
