Job Description:
We are looking for a Learning & Engagement Officer to join Community Engagement at National Museums Scotland, to work with us on the ‘Revealing Cultures: Ancient Egypt and East Asia’ Project.

The Revealing Cultures: Ancient Egypt and East Asia project will deliver two new galleries at the National Museum of Scotland (opening 2019) and a national programme of activities focussed on celebrating Ancient Egyptian and East Asia collections in other museums around Scotland, including an Ancient Egypt touring exhibition and new East Asia ‘Reveal’ displays with partner museums across Scotland alongside delivery of associated digital resources, a learning resource and a skills development programme. An expanded programme of national support through an additional project, Revealing Stories, will explore activities with specific target audiences and undertake new evaluation of this social impact work.

The Learning & Engagement Officer will liaise with partner museums and work with them to develop and deliver learning and community engagement programmes to a range of target audiences. The Officer will also develop learning resources to accompany the Revealing Cultures national programme and support evaluation of this work.

You will be qualified to degree level (or equivalent) and have demonstrable knowledge of learning, community engagement and outreach, with an awareness of current UK museum sector policies and practice.

An up to date knowledge of the Scottish museum sector and an awareness of the potential to develop programmes and resources around museum collections is desirable. Relevant experience in developing and delivering similar projects and working directly to deliver to a range of audiences is essential. Confidence and experience using social media is desirable. An effective communicator, you will be able to work to deadlines using your own initiative. Based at the National Museum of Scotland, in Edinburgh you will be expected to travel across Scotland to deliver the project.

This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week. The successful applicant will be placed at the bottom of our salary scale.

This is a fixed term post until 21st February 2020.
