Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Haynes International Motor Museum for a Head of Collections and Interpretation to join the Senior Executive Team. The successful candidate will manage the Collections Department and lead the delivery of an ambitious and forward thinking strategy. The role’s responsibilities cover the full spectrum of collections focused activity including the day-to-day management of the collection, collections documentation, conservation, the delivery of education programmes and both temporary and longer term exhibitions & displays. The adoption of sector best practice will be at the heart of this work in preparation for an eventual Accreditation application.

As part of the Museum’s on-going development, it is intended that the successful candidate will transition to Collections Director after a maximum of 12 months in post, or sooner dependant upon experience. Candidates will need to have demonstrable experience of working in a similar management role in the museum or heritage sector, as well as relevant qualifications, but not necessarily at Director level. An ability to balance the needs of all stakeholders within the objectives of the Museum’s Charitable Trust will be an essential criterion. This exceptional opportunity requires an ambitious and innovative strategic thinker who is equally comfortable hands on and able to deliver complex projects on time and on budget.
Required Skills:
• Ideally educated to first degree level, but relevant professional experience will be
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to develop strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
• An enthusiastic and knowledgeable museum or heritage expert
• Alignment to the aims and ambitions of the Museum, understanding the balance of
conservation and access to the collection
• Comfortable challenging conventional thinking and be proactive in championing bold ideas
• Passionate about making our collection ever more relevant and engaging for our diverse
• Experience in providing an effective consultative and collaborative approach to working
within a multi-functional museum or heritage organisation
