Job Description:
This fixed-term post forms part of a project to create a new platform and extend the scope of our website. Our objective is to make our museum and archive collections, (and the knowledge associated with them), accessible to the widest possible audience through the continued development of our extensive and innovative website.

The project is funded through a grant from the Recognition Fund, administered by Museums Galleries Scotland.

The main role of the Digital Content Assistant will be in the preparation and processing of digital content to populate the new website, which will encompass activities such as:

• Resizing, watermarking and other processing of image files
• Additional scanning and photography works.
• Review of digital documents held as pdf files, and processing where necessary
• Determining and applying geo-coordinates to object records
• Applying tags and other metadata to digital assets
• Plotting of boundaries and other features on digital maps
• Updating of catalogues and other documentation works
• Data entry into website templates
Required Skills:
The post requires appropriate knowledge and experience of the safe handling and documentation of museum, archive or other heritage assets. Interest and insight into social or industrial heritage would be of benefit.

A broad digital competency is an essential requirement, ideally associated with experience of other relevant digitisation and web development projects.

This is a full-time, fixed term, post, for a period of nine months at a rate of pay equivalent to £22,500. It is based at the Almond Valley Heritage Centre in Livingston. A 40 hour week is worked, normally 9-5 Monday to Friday. We might consider offering the post on a part-time basis, or varying working hours to suit personal circumstances.
