Job Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to manage a large section within the Department of Science & Technology. The section includes aviation, maritime, rail and land transport as well as mechanised agriculture and elements of transport infrastructure. Key objects include Concorde G-BOAA and the Morayshire locomotive. There are Transport collections not only at the National Museum of Flight but also at the National Museum of Scotland, the National Museum of Rural Life, and the National Museums Collection Centre. The post-holder will supply a high level of expertise and experience in one or more of the collection areas covered by the section.

The post-holder will have responsibility for developing these collections, particularly in relation to more recent material. The successful candidate will participate in the research, interpretation and STEM engagement activities of the department and be expected to contribute to the redevelopment of the National Museum of Flight. You should have acknowledged demonstrable expertise in aviation, maritime, rail, land transport and /or mechanised agriculture and a reputation in your discipline.
Required Skills:
Applicants should have a degree and preferably postgraduate qualifications in a relevant subject, in addition to proven relevant work experience. An excellent communicator with a proven track record in collections management, the successful candidate will be organised, methodical, adept at problem solving and a team worker. Experience in managing projects, and good ICT skills are also essential. A driving licence is highly desirable.
