Job Description:
Exhibitions Workshop Manager
Full-time basis
£30,464.58 per annum
Colindale, NW London

The Royal Air Force Museum is Britain’s National Museum that tells the story of the RAF through its people and collections. It has three sites (London, Cosford and Stafford) and a trading company which supplements its funding which comes principally from the Ministry of Defence.

The London site of the Museum has just undergone an ambitious transformation, opening three new galleries that share the story of the RAF through a new approach to interpretation and high-quality visitor experience.

Do you have experience of delivering technical production work in a public-facing environment? There is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Royal Air Force Museum in London as our Exhibitions Workshop Manager.

The Exhibitions Workshop Team, within the Exhibitions and Interpretation Department, provides technical services by producing, installing and deinstalling our galleries, including the production of bespoke object mounts for our very diverse (by nature and size) collection. As well as supporting these projects, the team also maintains a large number of exhibits across six hangars.

As Exhibitions Workshop Manager you will lead the workshop team of staff and volunteers. You will manage a large workshop facility that includes machinery of metalwork and woodwork, hosted in one of our heritage buildings. You will have experience of planning and delivering technical production work in a public-facing environment and experience of managing teams and contractors. You will be calm under pressure and able to prioritise when faced with a range of challenges. You will be a team player with good communication skills and a can-do attitude.

The post will be based in Colindale, NW London. Travel between the Museum’s sites will be necessary from time to time. There is a requirement to work weekends, evenings and some bank holidays as necessary. The post by its nature also includes some lone working.

You will be offered excellent benefits, including 30 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, a contributory pension scheme, an annual season ticket loan and numerous staff discounts whilst developing your career in a world-class museum group.
