Job Description:
Main Purpose


To support the Museum Director and the general day-to-day operation of the museum.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone wishing to develop their career in the museum sector by joining the team at the forthcoming Biggin Hill Memorial Museum. The new museum, which is HLF funded, will open to the public later this year. Biggin Hill Memorial Museum will tell the stories of people’s experiences of both world wars at RAF Biggin Hill. The role offers a wide range of opportunities working across the various areas of museum operations. Opportunities for professional development will be available.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. To undertake visitor services tasks including welcoming visitors and attending the front desk as and when required.
2. To provide administrative support to the Museum Director.
3. To support the delivery of the museum’s marketing and communications activities including social media and website updates.
4. To support the delivery of the museum’s learning programme.
5. To support the delivery of the museum’s retail offer and commercial activities.
6. To support the Director in the care and management of the collections and displays including pest management and maintenance of displays.
7. To follow museum policies and procedures and ensure new acquisitions are recorded and catalogued correctly.
8. To deliver guided tours and activity sessions and ensure the museum provides a high-quality visitor experience.
9. To provide day-to-day administration to museum volunteers and casual staff.
10. To support museum fundraising activity.
11. To undertake visitor surveys and provide evaluation data to the Director.
12. To support the collation of information for progress reports for the Trust and HLF.
13. To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required in the post or museum as directed by the Museum Director.

This role is 0.6 FTE (pro rata salary: £9,600)
Required Skills:
SKILLS
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent relationship building skills and proven ability to establish constructive working relationships.
• Proven ability to organise, prioritise and maintain workloads in the most effective way.
• Proven ability to think creatively and problem solve.

KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge and understanding of health and safety.
• Knowledge of museums and heritage sites.
• Knowledge of providing high quality visitor experiences.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
• An understanding and commitment to Equal Opportunities.
• An interest in the Second World War and Battle of Britain.

EXPERIENCE
• Experience of following policies and procedures.
• Experience in the heritage and/or museum sector
• Experience of successfully undertaking administrative tasks.
• Experience of presenting to groups of people.
• Experience supporting learning programmes is desirable

QUALIFICATIONS
GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
The post holder will be required to work some weekends and potentially additional hours at short notice to cover staff sickness
