Job Description:
Programming & Exhibitions Manager
Fixed term f/t (37.5 hrs pw for 10 months)
York

Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to create an imaginative and commercially viable programme of events and exhibitions. Working primarily at Beningbrough Hall and Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, you will play a key role in developing and delivering an exhibitions programme. Creating a 5 year plan of content in the new Saloon Galleries at Beningbrough and delivering an outdoor exhibition at the World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal.

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 10 months.

What it's like to work here
No day is the same at busy Beningbrough Hall. Built in the 18th century, numerous occupants have changed the face of this Italian-style house and it has an intriguing story to tell. From a wealthy teenager who built this mansion and its occupation by the RAF in WWII, to the re-invention as a country house gallery in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery. Today, the architectural grandeur of the rooms is a perfect setting for the many 18th century portraits, as well as our visiting contemporary art works. In the Garden, traditional formal borders contrast with sweeping lawns, and the restored walled garden. With a changing programme of family activities, talks and trails it’s an exciting place to be.

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site of outstanding international importance. Visitors have been drawn to this special place for hundreds of years, and the abbey ruins are one of the most iconic views in the North of England. But that's only one part of the story. The breath-taking water garden of Studley Royal is at the heart of the World Heritage Site, and it's a key focus for the team to raise its profile to be equal to that of the abbey.

What you'll be doing
Working closely with the curatorial and operations team you will bring creative flair to deliver a quality experience for our visitors. You will work collaboratively with external partners, and artists to create a compelling offer to attract new and repeat visitors to our sites.

From grant applications to insurance and registrar processes, to delivering the content, you will be involved at every step of the way. You will project manage the commissioning of the £200k Folly, 2020 art installation and with the wider team develop marketing, interpretation & communication plans.

The role will be looking to develop a three year rolling cycle of programming interventions including content generation, exhibitions. Interpretation and events. Working with internal and external partners for both funding and wider partnership opportunities. This role will have direct responsibility for developing these areas in the Property Business Plan.
