Job Description:
The Museum’s Learning and National Partnerships department are seeking a new Interpretation Manager. The successful applicant will line-manage Interpretation Officers in the Interpretation Team, support the development and delivery of special exhibitions and permanent gallery projects, and work collaboratively with project teams, curators and contractors to ensure that the content and interpretive techniques used in the Museum best meet our audiences’ needs. This is an exciting opportunity to further your career in this creative field in one of the world’s most visited museums.

Key areas of responsibility:
• Managing, leading and motivating the Interpretation officers, including supervision of work, managing performance, and assisting with personal and professional development
• Helping gallery and exhibition teams define and deliver a clear intellectual structure, with concise key messages and learning outcomes
• Managing projects, including planning, monitoring, liaison, administration and reporting
• Contributing to implementing, improving, communicating and maintaining the Museum’s Interpretation policies and standards

Person Specification:
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject. Previous experience of working on special exhibitions in museums/galleries is essential as is proven management experience of a creative, experienced team in a heritage or similar organisation. The successful applicant will be highly developed in liaison, diplomatic and influencing skills and be an excellent motivator and team player. They will also have excellent editorial skills.
