Job Description:

Explorer Team Leader x 2
Full time, Permanent
Kew Gardens, Richmond

Kew is the world’s leading botanic gardens, at the forefront of plant and fungal science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major visitor attraction.

We want a world where plants and fungi are understood, valued and conserved – because our lives depend on them.

We use the power of our science and the rich diversity of our gardens and collections to provide knowledge, inspiration and understanding of why plants and fungi matter to everyone.

The Visitor Operations Team Leaders (Explorer) are the key leadership team for the Kew Explorer Land Train.

These posts ensure the smooth running of the operation from Rostering team members through to supervising the maintenance of vehicles. Kew Explorer is a key to allowing visitors access the extensive Gardens and operates throughout the year. The Explorer also supports special events such as weddings.

Two positions are available: 1 x Permanent, 1 x Fixed Term Contract for 18 Months

The hours of work will vary, and you will need to be available at weekends and bank holidays with an expectation to work fifty percent of all bank holidays and at least three weekends over a four-week shift pattern.

Successful candidates will have significant experience in leading teams who work with the public in a very busy leisure or retail environment. Candidates need to hold a UK driving license and be willing to be trained to drive the explorer land train. They must demonstrate a keen understanding of operating a vehicle and safety implications.

There is extensive use of IT systems for management of the team and service, so skill in this area will be essential, as well as a flexible approach to rosters as you'll be working with the Gardens opening times from 8am to 8pm in summer months.

Salary will be £22,418 per annum. We offer a fantastic range of benefits including a broad range of Learning and Development opportunities, with access to the Civil Service training curriculum, generous annual leave entitlement for new starters, family friendly policies, a choice of competitive pensions and flexible benefits scheme.
