Job Description:
Learning Operations Manager

The Natural History Museum is one of the world’s leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web. With this, we aim to be a world class centre of excellence for science learning and our Learning Operations Manager is critical to the realisation of this ambition.

This is a diverse role, leading the delivery of a high-quality programme of engaging learning activities for schools, families and community audiences. You will contribute to income generation and building the Natural History Museum’s reputation as a leader in the field, will also oversee a large and successful volunteering programme and the Museum’s Wildlife Garden.

This is a highly engaging role where you will work alongside the Learning Programme and Resources Manager, together shaping a highly marketable programme that can be delivered efficiently and effectively. As a part of this, you will also find yourself working with Digital Media and Marketing, Visitor Experience and other teams to deliver a vibrant and changing programme of events and activities that bring our science and collections to life.

You will be senior lead for a large team of on-gallery science educators and oversee a large learning volunteer programme taking responsibility for the quality of delivery, creating effective museum educator training and ongoing continued professional development programmes; as well as the Learning Curator to ensure alignment of the care of that handling collection with the programme of activities using this collection. With senior line management responsibility for the Wildlife Garden Team, you will also support them in their work with the public and with volunteers, and ensuring activities run smoothly.

We are looking for natural, pragmatic collaborator, who has a strong sense of leadership through change. You will be comfortable with ambiguity and can deliver key messages clearly and effectively across varying levels in the organisation. Significant expertise and understanding of learning within a museum environment and highly knowledgeable about the need s, wants and expectations of different audiences will be essential.
