Job Description:
Senior Interpretation Developer (Gardens)
Fixed Term Contract – 12 months with the possibility for extension (subject to funding)

The Natural History Museum has embarked on an ambitious and exciting masterplan in order to deliver its vision of a future where both people and the planet thrive. The Gardens Programme plays a significant role within this and will radically change our visitor welcome, enhance visitor access and engagement on-site and catalyse national action in support of the UK’s biodiversity. Partnerships will be central to our approach, with relationships being built across the UK, including with national biodiversity-focused organisations, universities, youth organisations, museums and schools.

Senior Interpretation Developer will be a central role within the Natural History Museum Gardens: Inspiring Action on UK Biodiversity Project. You will be responsible for coordinating, developing and delivering interpretation for the Grounds Project, and will work to the Head of Garden Activities to help deliver the Interpretation Strategy for the whole project and the basis of all non-capital works going forward.

Collaborating with colleagues across the Museum, including researchers, curators and senior managers, you will help to workshop, and develop the key messages of the project using relevant science and research, across multiple subjects. Also, you will be responsible for the key content deliverables within the space. There will also be a joint responsibility to manage a complex number of stakeholders both inside and outside the organisation.

The successful candidate will have great communication and negotiation skills as you will be an advocate for the power and importance of the activity that will happen in the Gardens and at partner sites. This is an iterative process and the post holder will need a flexible pro-active approach to developing ideas. You will possess an audience focused approach and knowledge of best practice in interpretation, teamed with carry great enthusiasm and creativity. Your background will consist of previous experience in Museum (or similar) content, and interpretation development and familiarity with exhibition or capital build processes.
