Job Description:
A challenging and exciting Head of HR opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, experienced and commercially focussed HR professional at Castle Howard; One of the UK’s most iconic Stately Homes that is a major tourist destination.

Home to the Howard family for over 300 years, Castle Howard is a magnificent 18th century residence set within 1,000 acres of breath-taking landscape in the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heart of North Yorkshire. As a major tourist destination, it attracts over 250,000 visitors a year to the castle and grounds. The business includes a landed estate, hospitality business, holiday cottages and all year events programme.

Reporting to the CEO, and forming part of the Senior Management Team, the Head of HR will be a commercially driven and innovative HR professional whom has substantial people management experience gained previously, ideally within a travel/tourism/ leisure / heritage environment. The successful candidate will oversee a headcount of circa 120 permanent staff with seasonal variation increasing this to circa 180. The post holder will also directly manage a team of 2 and will be responsible for developing and delivering the HR strategy which attracts, develops and invests in the best people. Additionally, you will provide generalist HR advice and support on all aspects of people management, current employment legislation and best practice.
Required Skills:
The ideal candidate will be a commercially astute, CIPD Qualified and experienced HR Generalist, with extensive experience gained as a HR Lead within a diverse organisation. Additionally, you must have experience of working as part of an SMT / Leadership team. We are also looking for a candidate with demonstrable experience of managing large scale culture change as well as organisational development experience.

The successful candidate will be accountable for all attraction strategies and the selection process for all roles within the business including senior management, specialist, and temporary seasonal roles. You will liaise with senior / middle managers, discussing resourcing requirements across the business and provide management information to assist with effective resource planning including direct hire strategies.

You will be able to operate autonomously and at Director/ Board level within HR and across all HR functions, including compensation & benefits.
