Job Description:
Archivist
Fixed Term f/t (37.5 hrs pw for 24 mo)
Liverpool

Summary
We're looking for an Archivist to join our team on a two-year fixed-term basis for an exciting new project. If you have experience in archive & project management we'd love to hear from you.

What it's like to work here
Visiting the Hardmans’ House it’s quite easy to see the contrasting sides of this special place: the neat, professional, spacious business rooms and the cluttered, cramped living quarters of the renowned portrait photographer Edward Chambré Hardman and his wife Margaret Hardman. They lived and worked here for 40 years, keeping everything and changing nothing.

The business focused on professional studio portraits, but their real love was for vivid landscape images. Some of their huge collection of photographs is on display in the house, along with the equipment they used to take and develop the iconic images.

What you'll be doing
The successful candidate will undertake the Project Management of a two-year project. The aim of the project is to organise, catalogue, rehouse and make accessible the Edward Chambre Hardman Photographic Collection housed at Liverpool Records Office. In your role you will allow access to this exciting collection for researchers and members of the public. As a key leader in this project you will successfully manage and deliver a project management framework, you will coordinate regular updates to internal and external staff and funding bodies and will hold accountability for the management and spending of the project budget.

You will play a key role and work as part of wider team of National Trust staff and volunteers in the Liverpool Portfolio, including working alongside the National Photography Curator, the Senior House Steward, General Manager, Regional Conservator and Curator. You will be based at the Liverpool Records Office, giving you an exciting opportunity to work alongside the Liverpool Central Library team. Working as part of a dedicated team, in particular with the Digitisation Conservator, you will recruit, train and supervise on a day to day basis, a team of volunteers to support the delivery of the project.

However, occasionally other situations may arise that require the post holder to perform other duties or tasks as may be reasonably requested by the Trust.

Who we're looking for
Protecting our collections is vital and so you’ll have/be;
• Experience in a role leading archive management in an accredited museum or heritage environment, supported by appropriate qualifications
• Essential practical knowledge of plans and documents, including handling, packaging and storage solutions
• Experience of working with archival cataloguing software and standards such as Encoded Archival Description (EAD).
• Skilled as an engaging people manager with a track history of excellent leadership
• Passionate about sharing project progress with internal and external customers
• Budget management experience
• Competent at managing operational risk, health and safety, security and compliance requirements
• A passionate, engaging and influential individual
• Comfortable with public speaking and acting as a representative for the property and the organisation as a whole

Benefits
Benefits include flexible working whenever possible plus free parking at most locations. You’ll be entitled to discounts in high street stores and cinemas, National Trust shops and NT cafes, and have free entry to NT properties for you, a guest and your children (under 18).

Your health and wellbeing is important to us and is supported through generous annual leave and the option to buy additional days (minimum contract length applies), a cycle to work scheme, subsidised health cash plan, a loan towards rental deposits and confidential access to a free support service 24 hours a day should you need it.

Your future financial health is helped by an employer matched - up to 10% of basic salary - contributory pension scheme and you can further your career with training and development tailored to you.

All of this and the opportunity to give something back to your community with up to 5 days of paid volunteering per year!
