 Contract: 18 months

Job Description:
The Horniman Museum and Gardens in south east London has been open since Victorian times, when the tea trader and philanthropist, Frederick John Horniman first opened his house and extraordinary collection of objects to the local community. Since then, our collection has grown significantly and includes internationally important collections of anthropology and musical instruments, as well as an acclaimed aquarium and natural history gallery – all surrounded by 16 acres of beautiful Gardens offering breathtaking views across London.

In light of the Horniman’s declaration of an ecological and climate emergency and the launch of our Climate and Ecology manifesto, we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Climate and Ecology Action Coordinator to get several climate related initiatives up and running. These include: scoping out and developing an ‘environmental champions’ club, with a focus on our mainly family audiences; developing five ‘task and finish’ groups (waste, utilities, travel, procurement, communications) with staff across the Horniman to focus on reducing our environmental footprint; and engaging with our workforce to get involved with reducing the Horniman’s environmental and pollution footprint, increasing biodiversity, and inspiring others to do so.
Required Skills:
You will possess a professional qualification in Environmental science or another relevant subject or demonstrate equivalent experience in this area of work. You will have experience of developing, implementing and delivering successful carbon-reduction related projects and will have excellent interpersonal skills that enable to you to build effective relationships with staff across the Horniman.
