Job Description:
Position: Heritage Collections Manager
Term: Permanent, Full time, 35 hours per week
Location: UK, England, North East London (Chingford)
Salary: £35,354 per annum (including Outer London Weighting).

You will manage the Heritage Collection to best professional standards, which ensure that the assets are documented, stored and cared for to enable the Collection to be accessible for audience engagement through displays, exhibitions and loans. You will also develop the Collection as a research and educational resource, and to increase and facilitate access, contributing towards broader engagement both within and outside of the Scouts. You will lead on the collections management aspects of the Scouting of past, inspiring the future project which will see the creation of the first official museum of UK scouting.

Key tasks

Collections management
• Ensure collections documentation complies with SPECTRUM standards and that collections and associated information is documented within the museum’s collections management system.
• Update collection policy and procedures as necessary and ensure compliance with Accreditation standards

Collections development
• Strategically assessing collections management priorities, and working collaboratively with the Head of Heritage Services to formulate and develop Collections strategy in line with the Heritage Service Forward Plan and wider organisational aims and objectives.
• Recommending collections development projects in alignment with the Heritage Service’s strategic priorities, Documentation Plan and Collections Development Policy.

Collections access
• Work with partners, organisations, individuals, communities, other museums, etc. to develop the collection, proactively collect, and increase access through projects/displays/events
• Assist the Head of Heritage Services in the development and planning of learning and engagement opportunities.

Management and supervision
• Line management of Heritage Collections Assistant (fixed term project funded post).
• Planning and supervising the day-to-day work of Heritage Collection Volunteers and students undertaking work placements. Ensuring they are adequately trained to administer documentation and collections management activities.

• Being a key member of the Scouting the past, inspiring the future project team.
• Providing mutual support to colleagues to ensure delivery of a high-quality professional service.

We are looking for
You will be a proactive, enthusiastic team player who is passionate about making collections accessible and engaging for a range of audiences. You will be experienced in coordinating multiple priorities and excited about working in a fast moving, responsive Heritage Service. You will have excellent written communication skills and have SPECTRUM standards for museum documentation, along with being competent with Microsoft Office (or similar package) particularly spreadsheet, presentation and word processing functions. You will be interested in developing new skills through training and other professional development opportunities.
