Job Title:    Assistant Curator - document and collection management project

Job Description:
The Mercers’ Company Archive holds the historic records of the Company dating from 1348 to the present. It is also responsible for the management and preservation of the Company’s collections of art, silver, textiles and furniture.

Applicants seeking to work part-time (minimum 3 days per week) will also be considered.

Responsible to:
The Company Archivist and Records Manager


Purpose of role:

• To complete an inventory of works of art in Mercers’ Company office.
• To update the collections database on Calm 2000
• To photograph works that have not currently got images and add the images to the collection.
• To assess condition of works on paper and objects in store
 
Required Skills:
Essential:

Postgraduate qualification in museum studies, conservation, archives or equivalent experience in collections management or documentation.

At least 3 years experience in collection management or documentation

Meticulous attention to detail

Good organizational skills and ability to work using your own initiative.

Ability to be flexible and respond to the needs of the Company.

Enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in

Desirable:

Experience using CALM 2000 cataloguing software would be an advantage
