About the role
We’re bringing special places like Croft Castle to life in all sorts of new, exciting and imaginative ways. As our Engagement and Conservation Manager, you’ll make sure that the Castle and its contents are beautifully cared for and presented, and that our visitors receive the warmest of welcomes. You’ll manage the day-to-day conservation needs of the Castle too, through the leadership and management of a team of staff and volunteers. What’s more, you’ll ensure all conservation demands are met while embracing our visitor’s needs for closer interaction with our work. We’d also like you to manage delegated budgets. You’ll do always this and more, all whilst ensuring that the property is managed with its conservation always in mind.
About you
Sharing our love of people and special places, you’ll enjoy bringing the magic of Croft Castle to life for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. With strong leadership and management skills, we’d like you to have a great track record for managing people. If you’ve worked with volunteers before, that’s even better, as we are keen to find new and creative ways in which they can work with you and tell the story of Croft Castle. Alongside plenty of experience working in collections management within a historic setting, you’ll have a good understanding of balancing the needs of buildings and grounds with visitor enjoyment and commercial opportunity. As well as an understanding of conservation principles, you’ll also have excellent organisational and planning skills, while you’re communication skills are second-to-none. We’d also like you to have experience in both managing budgets and delivering against performance targets, while you’ll have plenty of exciting ideas on how we can develop Croft Castle’s offering further. You’ll also need a full driving licence as part of this role.
It’s about more than just going the extra mile but really believing in it. Every day, everything that you do will help to impress your colleagues and create a truly unforgettable experience for our visitors.
As part of your role, you’ll be required to take part in an out of hours duties rota shared between two other members of staff. You’ll be a key holder to the premises and you’ll be required to attend the property within 15 minutes of a call out, should any potential security or emergency incidents occur. To help you carry out your duties efficiently, rent free accommodation will be provided, while your heat and light consumption will be deducted from your salary at a rate of £692 per annum.
Incredibly rewarding
Do great things for us and we’ll do great things for you and your career. We’ll give you all the training, support and continued professional development you need, and we appreciate that work/life balance is important. You can also look forward to free admission to all our incredible places, and a helpful 20% off at our shops, cafes and restaurants. But they’re just the benefits we can tell you about here. There are lots more at www.nationaltrustrewardsandbenefits.org.uk
About us
We’re a charity founded in 1895 by three people who saw the importance of our nation’s heritage and open spaces and wanted to preserve them for everyone to enjoy. Over 100 years later these values are still at the heart of everything we do. We want people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy, be inspired by and love the places we look after as much as we do. We want everyone in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to feel like a member of the National Trust and, by 2020, we want to have grown our membership to more than five million.
