Amsterdam

Information about the position:
The curator will work within the team of twelve curators and researchers of the Rijksprentenkabinet, as well as with the museum’s curators, conservators, information specialists and registrars. The curator is responsible for the museum’s holdings of 20th- and 21st-century drawings and prints and is closely involved in all aspects of the scholarly research, publication and interpretation of works in this subject area.
For a number of years now, the Rijksmuseum’s policy has been focused on building up a representative overview of Dutch prints and drawings from the 20th and 21st century, thereby doing justice to the enormous variety of art production in this period. To this end, contacts are maintained with artists and their heirs, with collectors, galleries, and other institutions and museums, and an intensive acquisition policy is pursued. The curator plays a central role in all of these activities.

The main tasks are:

• Manage the collections assigned to this curator and oversee the process of cataloguing, and making the artworks accessible.
• Follow the art market and make proposals for acquisitions of 20th- and 21st-century works on paper by the museum.
• Research and publish about works on paper from this time period, both from the Rijksmuseum’s collection and in a broader sense.
• Organize and co-ordinate presentations and exhibitions.
• Communicate your expertise with both a lay and a professional public through publications, lectures and informal tours.
• Maintain and develop contacts with collectors.
• Represent the Rijksprentenkabinet in the art-historical world.
Required Skills:
• Academic degree (at least M.A.) in Dutch art history in a European context, with a specific knowledge regarding the 20th and 21st centuries.
• Minimum of two years’ curatorial experience with a proven track record working first hand with and presenting works on paper.
• Ability to develop and elaborate creative visions.
• Experience with project work, including in interdisciplinary (academic) context.
• Experience in publishing catalogues and articles in leading academic journals and the equivalent.
• Recognized expertise in this field, both nationally and internationally.
• Command of the modern languages.

Terms of employment
The gross monthly salary will be commensurate with education and experience, from a minimum of € 3.744,- to a maximum of 5.214,- (scale 12), for a full working week of 36 hours, excluding 8% holiday allowance and end-of-year benefits. The Museum CAO applies.
