Wellcome Collection is a free museum and library exploring health and human experience, where you can enjoy exhibitions, museum and library collections, public events, and a vibrant shop and café. We also publish books and online stories.

Wellcome Trust plans to spend 16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.

We are looking for a Media manager to join our team on a Fixed Term Contract

Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You’ll work in Wellcome Collection’s Communications & Marketing team, reporting to the Communications Lead.

This team sits within Wellcome’s Corporate Affairs department, alongside colleagues delivering Communications and Engagement for the foundation.

What will I be doing?
You’ll oversee the delivery of media campaigns that promote our activities to our key audiences, build Wellcome Collection’s brand and reputation, and manage risk.

We are looking for someone who can:
• Deliver the PR campaigns for Wellcome Collection.
• Manage breaking and reactive news stories that involve Wellcome Collection or are related to key areas of strategic or reputational interest.
• Protect and enhance Wellcome Collection and Wellcome’s reputation and help communicate our narrative to the national and international media.
• Embed Wellcome’s commitments to equity and inclusion in campaign development and delivery.

We’re looking for someone who has a proven track record in / with:
• Experience of media relations in-house, at an agency or experience as a journalist dealing with sensitive and high-profile issues and delivering high-profile campaigns.
• Excellent contacts in the media and cultural world, and a keen understanding of both.
• Excellent written, editing and oral communication skills, including writing and pitching comment and opinion articles in national and international media.
• Excellent proactive and reactive media relations skills, including steering media campaign strategies and crisis management. Financial management and budgetary skills.
• Able to advise on complex issues of strategic and reputational importance.
• Experience in supporting Wellcome’s journey to becoming an anti-racist, anti-ablest organisation. You’ll be an important champion of our Inclusive Communications Principles, building these Principles into your own work and helping to promote them to the wider organisation.
