Job Description |

Would you like to work for the charity that cares for hundreds of historic sites in every corner of England? We are looking for a motivated manager to join our team at Apsley House and Wellington Arch. This is a full-time role working 36 hours per week. No history background? No problem. What is important to us is a passion for people and excellent customer service. We are looking for a manager who enjoys working alongside their team and understands what it takes to deliver an engaging visitor experience to a diverse audience.
As Apsley House and Wellington Arch Manager, you'll be working at two inspiring historic sites in the heart of London. From the internationally significant art collection and grand interiors of Apsley House to the commanding views and landmark status of Wellington Arch, these sites offer a uniquely varied working environment, combining heritage, public engagement, and operational responsibility.
In this hands-on role, you'll understand what makes a great visitor experience and will inspire your team to deliver it through leading by example and effective coaching. You'll ensure that both sites are welcoming, well-presented, safe and secure, while also identifying opportunities to maximise income and meet site performance targets.
You'll bring strong customer service experience from a leisure or tourism setting, along with proven skills in team supervision and motivation. Proactive and confident in dealing with both colleagues and the public, you'll be comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively.
The role also demands strong organisational skills, especially in the planning and delivery of Apsley House's annual public events programme, and in supporting occasional private functions. At Wellington Arch, you'll also will work with the Commercial team to facilitate corporate and private venue hire.
You'll contribute to the management of important stakeholder relationships. Apsley House is the only English Heritage property where the family is still in residence. The relationship with the Duke of Wellington is a significant one, and you may be called upon to liaise with members of the Wellesley family. At Wellington Arch, you'll also act as a point of contact for our current exhibitions partner, Vigo Gallery, as well as other key stakeholders such as The Royal Parks, Westminster Council, the Metropolitan Police, and the Cabinet Office.
This is a full-time role based on a variable five-day week (36 hours), including two weekends a month and some Bank Holidays. Due to the nature of the role, a DBS check will be required as part of the recruitment process. |
