1.) Job Description
The Jewish Museum London is made up of passionate and expert staff and a collection of over 32,000 objects which are designated with Outstanding Status by Arts Council England. Although the Museum closed its Camden site in 2023 it has since operated as a Museum without Walls. As an Arts Council NPO organisation the museum runs an active programme of displays across the country and collecting initiatives alongside formal and informal educational sessions for all ages. With short-term plans for an interim space to operate from, looking ahead to a new permanent home, the Museum is about to embark on its next chapter in the run up to its 100th anniversary in 2032.
This role will support delivery of all aspects of collections management, collections care and collections engagement, including leading on several NPO activity strands. We are looking for someone passionate about museum collections, enjoys working on a variety of tasks, and is confident when engaging our audiences and stakeholders. Reporting to the Head of Collections Engagement the appointed candidate will have demonstrable experience of collections management systems and processes, alongside excellent interpersonal skills as they will be required to work with collections placements, volunteers, and partner organisation to care for and engage our audiences with the collection.
2.) Main Duties & Responsibilities
Collections Engagement
• Facilitating and arranging temporary displays and object loans with cultural partners including transport, site visits and documentation.
• Liaising with cultural partners to organize collections engagement activity especially projects that use the collection as inspiration for creative outputs.
• Facilitating online collections updates with our website company and software providers, and supplying content as needed.
• Supporting the Learning Producers with object handling activities and displays in partner venues (LPs deliver craft/engagement activity).
• Creation of content, posting social media and website collections content.
• Answering general collections and research enquiries.
• Participation in the Museum’s Collections Advisory Group, Racial Inclusivity group, and the Environmental Working Group.
Collections Management and Care
• Accessioning new acquisitions, logging object movement and collections audit information using Axiell CMS.
• Recruiting, training, briefing and managing existing and new collections volunteers/placements to support collections activities
• Supporting the management of the Museum’s established reference and picture libraries, including negotiating fees and permissions, and invoicing.
• Supporting loans in and out of the Museum to and from other collections and to ensure that appropriate procedures are in place for this purpose.
Other
• Contributing to Collections Activity reporting for quarterly NPO reports.
Collections as Part of the Wider Team
The Jewish Museum London is proud of our inter-departmental approach to work. This role will be working in particular with the Learning and Engagement Team to ensure the Museum’s collection is embedded in the Museum’s activities, including programming, social media and outreach work.

The Jewish Museum London is a small, friendly, collaborative organization. This role will be working alongside colleagues in both the Learning and Operations departments to support any Collections related work. 90% of our staff are trained Mental Health First Aiders and we have a generous annual leave policy in place, as well as staff-wide CPD

Essential
• Demonstrable experience of working in collections engagement.
• Demonstrable experience of collections management systems.
• Demonstrable knowledge of collections standards, including basic collections care.
• Excellent verbal communication and great people skills.
• Excellent written communication, report writing and data entry skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent IT skills and experience of posting content on social media and websites and online digital projects
• Ability to work within a diverse team and people from very different backgrounds.
• Understanding of and ability to support learning engagement activity.
• Can do attitude and an enthusiasm for working in a fast changing and evolving situation.
Desirable
• Working knowledge of Jewish heritage objects.
• Experience of using Axiell Collections.
• Ability to recruit, support and manage teams of placements and volunteer to assist with collections work.
• A full driver’s licence and ability to drive to external venues across the country. |
