  Job Description
Manage the collections and archival records of the Household of the Prince and Princess of Wales, ensuring the timely delivery of collections management activities including documentation, inventory audits, location and movement control, object care and storage, collections management systems updating and reporting, while also managing and supporting Kensington Palace’s correspondence and gift activities.

Main Areas of responsibility:

General
• Provide day-to-day leadership to existing team and processes in collections management, inventory, archiving. gifts and correspondence.
• Understand objectives, current process, bottle necks, challenges, opportunities, areas for further investigation.
• Review, develop and implement policy, systems and practices
• Objective is excellence and efficiency in processing, delivery, timeliness of responses, object care and records management.
• Work well with relevant colleagues in the Household and at the wider Royal Household, Royal Collection Trust and other external vendors.
• Coordinate with appropriate team members in Private Secretaries, Visits & Events, Private team and Operations by end of first three months.
   - Initial diagnostic of strengths, challenges, suggestions for each area
   - Summary of further work/input needed.
   - Timeline of priorities
   - Suggested plan.

• All of these above are undertaken with the perspective of:
   - Kensington Palace as an independent household with its own team, processes, standards and objectives.
   - The Kensington Palace operations team should work even more closely with the wider Royal Household’s team meaning that the more understanding, alignment and cooperation we can achieve now the better and smoother any eventual combination will be.
• Manage day-to-day processes, quickly respond to issues as they arise, and think longer-term about change needed and the ability to drive forward toward positive results and relationships.
• Inspire trust, confidence and patience in TRH and KP’s senior leadership team
• Comply with all health and safety rules and regulations ensuring own and others’ health and safety at all times.
  Required Skills / Qualifications
Essential:
Experience with multiple broad management and planning roles in these disciplines, including a track record of:

• Demonstrable knowledge of the principles of collections care, management, documentation and related activities and procedures
• Proven experience of working with collections, archive or records management systems
• Understanding of the objectives, structure, design and management of robust systems for managing public and private inventories, collections, archives, and correspondence/gifts flows and storage.
• Recruiting, retaining, managing and developing a positive, cross-functional team.
• Strong communication skills: Ability to communicate clearly and positively with TRH, ExCo, SMT, the team and partners.
• Deep knowledge of relevant external systems and processes, state of the art upgrades, data and challenges in each of these functions.
• Ability to analyse issues and options, react quickly to events, take them in stride, bring confidence to all that priorities are set and that results will be delivered.
• Strong team and functional management, including budgeting, setting priorities, recruitment and team management, coordination across a broad organisation, etc.

Previous Experience:
• Advanced degree in relevant or related areas
• Demonstrated success in systems change/upgrade to improve functionality and efficiency.
• Substantial years of experience in this field, including at least 1 significant, longer-term senior management role in a directly comparable environment.
• Experience with both official/corporate, and private inventory, archiving
• Security clearance
• Familiarity with RH through interaction or employment at RH or RCT

Desirable:
• An interest in Their Royal Highnesses' work and activities

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week worked Monday Friday, and such other hours that are necessary for the proper fulfilment of duties, or to meet unexpected or urgent demands.

Location: Primary base at Kensington Palace, with some travel in London, to Windsor and Norfolk
