2 POST OFFICERS for a 6 MONTH CONTRACT
The Government of South Georgia & The South Sandwich Islands are seeking post officers to work on South Georgia during the austral summer 2026-27.
The Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands runs a highly successful post office and shop in the old whaling station of Grytviken, South Georgia. Welcoming over 15,500 visitors from across the world who visit the Territory on cruise ships, yachts and research vessels, the post officer represents the Government to a wide range of visitors.
We are looking for someone who has:-
• Exceptional customer service skills and proven retail or hospitality experience.
• Experience using Point of Sale (POS) software (not essential)
• Philatelic experience (not essential)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work to a flexible and changeable schedule
• A confident communicator with strong organisational skills
• Responsible, self-motivated, and conscientious, with an ability to work independently and as part of a small team
• A person that is resourceful, adaptable and can cope with changes made, sometimes, at short notice
• Numerate and competent in the use of standard IT packages including Word and Excel
• Detail oriented and able to maintain accurate and timely records
• Is willing to undertake duties at the station to assist the general running of the site, and play an active role in domestic support, such as but not limited to cooking, house cleaning and waste management.
The terms
Start Date: Mid-September 2026 (dependent upon ship schedules)
On rotation: 6 months on South Georgia, returning early April 2027
Pay: £28,380 pa pro rata
Closing Date: 9th of June 2026
Interviews: Week commencing 22nd of June 2026 |
