Job Summary/Basic Function:
Join a creative and supportive art and design education department at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. The Exhibitions Manager will oversee the daily operation of the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery and the Dumke Arts Plaza in downtown Ogden. Under the guidance of the Gallery & Exhibitions Director, the Exhibitions Manager will organize, lead, and supervise the installation, maintenance and removal of all exhibitions, including handling and shipping of artworks and managing public events, working closely with staff and faculty in the Weber State University Department of Visual Art & Design (DOVAD). The Exhibitions Manager will hire and supervise a team of 6-8 hourly student employees, coordinate with university Facilities Management and third-party contractors, and assist the director with contracts, financials, and record-keeping. The Exhibitions Manager will also work closely with department faculty to support BFA capstone exhibitions each semester and help coordinate visiting artist programming and events.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected candidate must be able to lift 35 pounds.
Required Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in the visual arts or related field
- Two year's of art handling or other gallery or museum work, or related experience
- Current driver's license
- Experience working with spreadsheets
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred:
- One year of related experience in a gallery or museum environment
- Construction/fabrication skills to build pedestals, shelves and other exhibition support
- Ability to mat and frame works of art
- Facilities management experience
