Job Description: |
Based at the National Museums Scotland Collections Centre, you will support the work of the Department of Natural Sciences, within the Vertebrate Biology Section. This is a part-time (two days per week), fixed-term post currently based within the Collections Centre, Granton, Edinburgh. Travel to the National Museum of Scotland, Chambers Street, Edinburgh, for meetings and public engagement activities will occasionally be required.
Duties will include working on the collections, their documentation, storage and display, making them accessible to researchers and other visitors. You will work within Vertebrate Biology, delivering our strategic priority projects, our loans, exhibitions and digitisation programmes. In particular, you will support the research of the Principal Curator of Vertebrates in the “From Feed the Birds to Do Not Feed the Animals” project funded by the Wellcome Trust. |
Required Skills: | You will have a degree in biology, zoology or similar subject, and be able show both a specialist knowledge and proven interest in vertebrate zoology. Proven experience in paid or unpaid work in museums or similar environment is essential. You will be able to demonstrate existing specialist knowledge, or the potential to develop specialist knowledge, relevant to the collections and subject areas covered by the Section.
You will be organised and methodical, with good verbal and written communication skills and ICT skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. You should also have experience of managing your own time and workload, working to deadlines and handling multiple priorities. A driving licence is highly desirable. |
