Job Description:
This is a new and exciting post for the River & Rowing Museum. We’re looking for a pro-active part or fully qualified accountant who is accurate, process focused and has excellent attention to detail. You must have a proven track record of being able to multi-task and prioritising your own workload while realising the importance of deadlines. You will feel comfortable connecting with all the staff at the museum and have excellent communication skills. A willingness to be flexible and enthusiastic with changing ways of working is essential.

Main purpose of the role
1. Support the Finance Director by performing key accounting and financial tasks to an excellent standard.
2. Provide accurate information to support the management of the museum
3. Be a key member of the museum staff, demonstrating the museums core values

Key Responsibilities
1. Monthly review of accounting ledgers in Sage, checking coding of postings to correct account and completeness of monthly financial data
2. Post financial entries into Sage as part of month end process.
3. Monthly review of aged debtors & aged creditors, and reporting any outstanding amounts to the Finance Director
4. Prepare monthly reconciliations for key Balance Sheet accounts: Fixed Assets/Depreciation, Debtors, Prepayments, Intercompany, Creditors, Accruals, Stock and discuss any large reconciling items with the Finance Director
5. Prepare monthly reports as part of the management accounts process, including the monthly investment report for the Trustees.
6. Supporting the Bookkeeper and covering where necessary:
o Responsibility for all payments and receipts into the Museum bank accounts, and related processes
o Performing Bank reconciliations
o Preparing monthly VAT return
o Prepare monthly Gift Aid return
o Preparing Monthly Payroll including furlough returns
o Preparing Visitor Metrics for museum for use by the Leadership Team
7. Assist with the yearly audit – preparing analysis and performing reconciliations as required.
8. Assist with preparing information for budgets and forecasts as required.
9. Ad hoc financial analysis and project work as required by the Finance Director and other members of the Leadership Team
10. Filing of information as needed
11. Assisting Finance Director make improvements to Finance processes
Required Skills:
We are looking for a qualified or part qualified accountant, who can demonstrate through recent experience the ability to hit the ground running with the main tasks of this role.

Qualifications, experience & knowledge
1. Accounting qualification (full or partial) or studying towards a qualification
2. Knowledge and working experience of Sage
3. Experience of monthly finance processes as part of production of the management accounts
4. Excellent Excel skills
5. Experience of working in a Charity environment or Experience of working in an SME environment: desirable
6. Knowledge of VAT
7. Knowledge of Gift Aid
8. Experience of processing payroll

Skills & Abilities
1. Excellent interpersonal, written and spoken communication skills
2. Proven ability to multi-task and prioritise your own workload, meet deadlines, and to work effectively under pressure and to tight timescales
3. Accurate and excellent attention to detail and be able to process multiple streams of information
4. Proven team working skills
5. Ability to create, analyse and report on financial information and management accounts
6. Experience of embracing change and coming up with more efficient ways of working
