Job Description:
The Courtauld is the UK’s leading institution for teaching and research into the History of Art and the conservation of paintings, and is also home to one of the finest small art museums in the world. The Courtauld is currently undergoing a capital transformation project that will make The Courtauld’s world-class artworks, research and teaching accessible to more people – in the UK and internationally.

As Building Services / Controls Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the functionality of the newly refurbished Gallery and West Wing as well as the maintenance of the rest of The Courtauld’s estate. This newly established role, will have day-to-day responsibility for the maintenance and management of mechanical and electrical plant, building management and environmental controls systems to ensure the smooth operation of the Gallery’s systems to support its permanent collection displays, its loan exhibitions and its events programmes. In addition, you will oversee and manage reactive and planned maintenance including statutory compliance work to the rest of The Courtauld’s estate.
Required Skills:
You will line manage a small team of maintenance staff, including managing and supervising the work of a number of specialist mechanical and electrical service contractors including specialist system providers.

As a member of the Estates Team you will be required to work collaboratively and be adaptable and flexible during a period of change for The Courtauld. To succeed in this role, you will have expert knowledge of mechanical plant and associated control systems, in particular HVAC systems, in addition to having a good operational understanding of Electronic/Control Systems and knowledge of electrical services. You will need to be a clear and confident communicator, able to report on works verbally and in writing. You will be proficient in analysing technical BMS software and data and communicating this to colleagues with varying levels of technical knowledge and experience.

You need to take a proactive and efficient approach to maintenance and will be empowered to make decisions on operational tasks and contribute to the establishment of new processes and procedures to manage the newly refurbished space within Somerset House.
