Volunteer Co-ordinator
Full Time, Fixed Term
£23,953 to £27,514 p.a. Grade 7 PAY AWARD PENDING

The Story at Mount Oswald will showcase the unheard voices of County Durham's history and will transform the way we tell the story of County Durham. It brings the registration service together with the Durham County Record Office and Archive, Local Studies, Durham Light Infantry, Historic Registration Records and the Historic Environment Record at Mount Oswald, Durham and is due to open in 2023.

We are looking for an organised and motivated person to create and manage the volunteering programme for The Story at Mount Oswald.

The successful candidate will work with local people, supporting them to develop their skills in a variety of roles, from collections/heritage specific roles to digital, visitor service and activities and outreach. The Volunteer Coordinator will manage the volunteer programme, including recruitment, training and coordination, working with collections teams where necessary. The candidate will manage events at The Story and around the county, advocating for the project everywhere they go. They will be part of a multi-disciplinary team widening participation and engagement with County Durham’s heritage.

We would like someone who is dynamic and who will revolutionise our volunteer programmes, bringing separate volunteer programmes into one. You will understand the issues and needs of volunteers and be a great communicator. You will feel comfortable initiating projects and supporting other team members to deliver projects with volunteer support. This is a unique opportunity to join The Story project team and bring new audiences to the collections.

The post will initially be based at County Hall, moving to The Story when it opens. The post includes a mix of office, community and home working.

The role will start January 2023, it is part funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and is fixed term until September 2026. We expect interviews will be held in October/November 2022.
