The Story at Mount Oswald will showcase the unheard voices of County Durham's history and will transform the way we tell the story of County Durham. It brings the registration service together with the Durham County Record Office and Archive, Local Studies, Durham Light Infantry, Historic Registration Records and the Historic Environment Record at Mount Oswald, Durham and is due to open in 2023.

We are looking for a confident and experienced community engagement professional to open the treasures in our collections to new audiences.

The successful candidate will work with local people to uncover local history in ways that work for them, they will build long-lasting relationships with members of the community helping us to reach new audiences. They will manage events at The Story and around the county, advocating for the project everywhere they go. The candidate will need to work on multiple projects at once across a range of audiences. They will be part of a multi-disciplinary team widening participation and engagement with County Durham’s heritage.

We would like someone who is energetic and who will challenge, innovate and revolutionise the ways we engage our audiences. This is a unique opportunity to join The Story project team and play a pivotal role in its success.
