Job Title:   Senior Curator, Nature + Love Project
Organisation:   Horniman Museum and Gardens
Salary:   £40,544 - £41,371 p.a.
Type:   Full-Time Position
Contract: 4 years
Location:   London, England
Closing Date:   Monday, 6th February 2023

  Job Description
The Horniman Museum and Gardens is a unique attraction in south east London where world cultures and the natural world are brought together for everyone to enjoy. The Museum holds internationally important collections of anthropology and musical instruments, as well as a popular natural history gallery and Aquarium. The 16 acres of beautiful Gardens feature a tropical Butterfly House and offer stunning views across London.

Nature + Love is a major £9m capital project aimed at widening audiences through engaging people in nature and the climate and ecological crisis. It consists of the complete renewal of the Horniman’s 60-year-old natural history displays and the creation of two new outdoor destinations: a Sustainable Gardening Zone and a Nature Explorers’ Adventure Zone. The latter develops a nature-themed children’s play area, a new family café, and opens up access to the Horniman’s half-mile Nature Trail, London’s oldest.

As Senior Curator, Nature + Love Project, you will work on the curatorial content principally around the redisplay of our Natural History Gallery, working with the Principal Curator of Natural Sciences. You will also help to develop and manage our collection, and participate in the development and delivery of digital content, public events, activities and exhibitions, working across our teams.

You will have expertise in natural sciences, experience in museum work, and have a great facility for collaboration and communication.

The closing date for completed applications is 10am on 6 February. Interviews will be held on 22 February 2023.

The Horniman is an equal opportunities employer and we value and celebrate diversity. We want to better represent the communities in which we work but recognise that there is still much work to do in this area. We welcome and encourage all applicants and particularly encourage you to apply if you are from a community that is often disadvantaged by society or of ethnically diverse background.
