Job Description |
|
With a rich history dating back over 700 years, the Mercers’ Company is focussed on being a philanthropic force for good and philanthropy is at the core of its past, present and future. Our giving is focused on Young People & Education, Older People & Housing and Church & Communities.
The Company is a complex and challenging organisation, incorporating the traditions of a City institution and a modern business with a mission of charitable giving. It combines the attributes of a substantial property and investment company with a set of ambitious philanthropic aims. It donates millions each year to charitable causes, with a particular focus on young people and education, older people and housing, and church and communities.
The Company is seeking to appoint a Curator to play a significant role in the delivery and development of the Company’s Heritage plan, leading on all aspects of curatorial work. Specifically, the Curator will lead on planning and delivering the Mercers’ Company Exhibitions in a way that makes them accessible and engaging. The successful candidate will take a lead on object acquisitions, care, display and interpretation of heritage items and be responsible for the management and development of the Heritage Trainee.
This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative small team who provide high quality Heritage support in a major philanthropic organisation. |

Required Skills / Qualifications |
|
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced curator with an excellent track record of having researched, designed and managed displays and/or exhibitions that effectively engage stakeholders. This role will suit an individual with demonstrated experience in research, project management, managing budgets, and working to high standards of object handling in a museum or gallery environment. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders. Experience in cataloguing using CALM databases or other museum software would be an advantage but is not essential. The ideal candidate will be a team player, with an interest in telling stories through collection displays, exhibitions, publications, learning and engagement. |
