  Job Description
You will schedule and manage the installation, decant and maintenance of all exhibit displays for both permanent and temporary exhibitions across all IWM branches. This will involve advising on appropriate display and object mounting methods and include mount production, showcase dressing and the appointment and management of external contractors and freelancers. You will have line management responsibility for two full-time Exhibitions Display & Workshop Technicians and schedule the day-to-day work of the team. The post is predominately based at IWM London, but you will also be expected to spend some time at the other IWM branches as required.

Travel and Working Hours
This is a five day/week post. Working hours are 8am to 4.15pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 4pm Friday, to enable daily checks and as much maintenance work as possible to be carried out on the public sites before opening. From time to time flexibility with working hours is required to accommodate deadlines or priorities. Travel within the UK including to other IWM locations will be required. Out of hours and weekend work may be necessary during busy periods, in particular in the run up to exhibitions openings and for maintenance purposes. Time off in lieu will be offered to cover this.

  Required Skills / Qualifications
• Educated to GCSE level or equivalent and/or a relevant vocational
qualification.

• A high level of proven experience of making museum standard mounts for a wide range of objects using a variety of materials. Together with experience of current showcase dressing and display techniques.

• Demonstrable understanding of conservation and collection management requirements. Experience of object handling and packing to museum standards.

• Proven ability to use a range of workshop and specialist equipment and hand tools together with basic carpentry skills.

• Computer literacy with experience of Microsoft Office.

• Up-to-date health and safety knowledge and experience of producing risk assessments and method statements.
