  Job Description
Folkestone Town Council is seeking to appoint an experienced Museum Manager/Curator for Folkestone Museum. The museum, located within the Town Hall, opened in May 2017 and offers a focus for arts, culture and heritage linked to the town’s unique place in local, regional, national and world history. Folkestone was named as the best place to live in South East England in the Sunday Times Best Places to Live Guide, March 2024.

The Museum Manager/Curator will take responsibility for strategy, programming, activities and exhibitions, along with the successful day-to-day management of the museum by working to maintain and improve accreditation standards; raising the museums profile through innovation and best practice; generating income to support resilience and delivering an audience offer that appeals to all.
Supported by a Collections Officer, Heritage Learning Officer, Visitor Services Assistant and a team of volunteers, the Museum Manager/Curator will deliver a strong programme of exhibitions, events, activities and learning opportunities using the collections in a way that makes them accessible and engaging to all.

  Required Skills / Qualifications
We are looking for an exceptional candidate educated to at least degree level with at least three years previous experience, ideally working with archaeology, social or natural history collections. A sound knowledge of the Arts Council England Accreditation standard is essential, along with the Spectrum standard and benchmarks in collection care. The post holder must be an excellent communicator with a proven track record in museum audience development, together with the ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
